When snow hits New York City, local parks become playgrounds for snow sports! Though it’s hard to predict when the snow will hit the city, it usually happens at least once every year -- so grab your MetroCard and pray for snow.

Where to Go When it Snows
Central Park
As long as there's at least 6 inches of snow cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are allowed -- meaning you can follow the bridal paths, snowshoe around Sheep Meadow or explore the other 840+ acres in the middle of Manhattan.
Riverside Park
Riverside is a cross-country skiers paradise, with a loop that extends the length of the park and is frequented by skiers on snowy days.
Prospect Park
Brooklynites don’t need to travel all the way to Manhattan to get in on the snowy fun. Prospect Park is a beautiful option for sledding and snowshoeing in Brooklyn. Grab your gear and head in to explore the trails and the Great Lawn for gentle ups and downs for the beginner snowshoer.
Van Cortlandt Park
For those with easy access to the 1 and 4 train, Van Cortlandt park has 1000+ acres that, when covered in snow, become a winter wonderland to rival any other.
