In honor of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Caspar David Friedrich, the Met is exhibiting a collection of 75 of his works, ranging from oil paintings to pencil drawings and sketches. This will mark the first time that Friedrich's work will be shown in a large scale in the United States, and aims to shine a light on both the German Romantic movement as a whole and put Friedrich's art into context "within the tumultuous politics and vibrant culture of 19th-century German society."
