In 2023, the saga of Flaco, a Eurasian eagle-owl that escaped from the Central Park Zoo in February of that year, captured the attention and hearts of New Yorkers as he spent roughly a year living and hunting in the wilds of Manhattan before dying in February 2024. A year after his death, the New York Historical Society looks back on Flaco with this exhibition featuring videos and photographs of the city's favorite raptor, and also "examines the dangers faced by birds in the urban environment, the legislation inspired by Flaco’s death, and what we can do to be better neighbors to the animals in our midst."
