Back for its 122nd year, it's the New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge in Coney Island, in which folks will ring in the start of 2025 by risking hypothermia with a dive into the frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Over 4,300 people took part last year to help raise money for local charities and nonprofits, including the Coney Island YMCA and the New York Aquarium. Registration to take part in the event is free.
