America's most famous New Year's Eve celebration takes place right in the heart of Manhattan with the ball drop in Times Square, where locals and tourists alike have gathered to celebrate the beginning of the new year since 1904. The festivities will start at 6:15 pm with the lighting of the ball, which will fall down the flagpole of One Times Square beginning its descent at one minute to midnight. The party will also include live musical performances by Carrie Underwood, Mickey Guyton, TLC, Rita Ora, the Jonas Brothers, and many more. The ball drop is free to attend, with viewing areas open to the public beginning at 3:00 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis; we recommend getting there early to stake out a good spot. Access to the viewing areas will be available at 49th, 52nd and 56th Streets on 6th and 8th Avenues; for more information on how to reach Times Square via the subway and on station closings on December 31st, check out our full New Year's Day service guide.
